West Sacramento Teachers Association (WSTA) educators are building the organizing power to fight for the schools our students deserve! WSTA has spent the last two years building organizing structures, and are finally seeing the results! Over the summer, we set a goal to get 65% of members to attend an organizing action this school year.
Since then, WSTA has coordinated two all-site walk-ins, and each has gotten around 80% member participation. Apart from blowing our target goals out of the water, we’ve also filled out our organizing team, built action team leaders, and signed up over 160 parents to join us in the fight! WSTA president Douglas Knepp said members are high-energy, and engaged like never before. We are excited to keep building on this momentum to win the schools' students deserve!
WSTA educators have been fighting for a fair contract since December of 2024, with the next bargaining meeting scheduled for early October. We won’t back down from our righteous fight to recruit and retain quality educators! West Sac students cannot afford to lose any more teachers to neighboring districts.
One thing is clear: our WSTA teachers are fired up and ready to continue the fight because We Can’t Wait and The Time is Now!
